Drunk driving accidents dangerously high on Super Bowl Sunday

This Sunday marks the 53rd annual Super Bowl. If you're like most Americans, you probably have a tradition for celebrating this day. It might involve tailgating, heading to a neighborhood bar or attending a viewing party at a friend's house.

Regardless of where you watch the big game, Super Bowl festivities tend to have one thing in common: alcohol. And because Super Bowl celebrations tend to last for hours, so too does the drinking. In fact, alcohol consumption is so high on Super Bowl Sunday, this day has become one of the drunkest days of the year.

Drunk driving

Every year at this time, drunk driving accident surge across the country. Bear in mind that even if it's been a few hours since your last drink--or even if you've since consumed water, coffee or food to "sober up"--alcohol is still in your blood stream. And whenever alcohol is in your system, it impairs your cognition.

Therefore, if you've been drinking on game day, it's important to find a safe way to get yourself home. You may want to:

  • Arrange for a sober friend to give you a ride,
  • Stay overnight at the party host's house or
  • Use a rideshare or public transit service.

Recognizing drunk drivers on the road

If you notice another driver on the road exhibiting erratic behavior--e.g., swerving, driving dangerously fast or slow or otherwise driving dangerously--it's important to report the vehicle to law enforcement. Take note of the driver's route as well as the vehicle's license plate number, color and make. As soon as you have a safe opportunity to do so, call 9-1-1.

If you suffer injury at the hands of a drunk driver, seek medical attention first. Then, consult with a car accident attorney about your case. You have the right to seek compensation for your pain and suffering.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

"As a dad in a child custody case, I was very scared that I would not get enough parenting time with my young daughter. But, these two attorneys believed in me and helped me get a 50/50 week on/off schedule from the Judge for my daughter. Their hard work and determination blew me away, and I am forever grateful." -F.
